Patches Project

In 2025 we began a project to expand some of the most needed plants for butterflies and bees into the fields in Selsdon Wood. We are clearing patches and planting:
- Horseshoe Vetch - The only food source for the caterpillars of the Chalkhill Blue and Adonis Blue butterflies and therefore vital for the survival of these beautiful species.
- Kidney Vetch - The only food source for the caterpillars of the Small Blue butterfly and so equally important.
-  Wild Marjoram and Wild Thyme - These plants are exceptionally drought resistant. They are a food source for bees and adult butterflies and will withstand hot dry summers when other food
sources may wither and die.

This page will track the progress of this project
August & September 2025

Patches were cleared in the fields with the help of the GrowWild team and a few days later all 3 species were planted in each patch. The following week two new patches were created in Field 3. For the following month these were all watered on a regular basis.
